Both the authorities and road assistance companies are removing the trapped and piled up vehicles in streets, garages and roads and transferring them to scrap yards, open spaces and other securely guarded areas that have been put in place for this purpose. The vehicles that arrive at these storage areas are recorded by the loss adjusters in order to identify them and contact their owners, and to make the loss adjustment in that same location to determine the compensation.

If your vehicle is in a private garage you can contact your insurance company for its removal.
Yes, it is advisable to document all the damage by means of photographs and videos, including the water level reached in the vehicle or on the walls of the home.
To prevent problems in the claim and the payment of compensation, it is recommended not to cancel the insurance policy nor deregister the vehicle at the Dirección General de Tráfico until it has been assessed and the compensation received.
Yes, furthermore, if the garage that you choose is reasonably close to the place where it was damaged, the Consorcio will assume the cost of towing it.
No, this vehicle collection service is completely free. In the case of Línea Directa, no recovery truck driver will charge customers. You must make the claim directly by telephone by calling 900 222 665 or via internet

Be patient, the Consorcio’s website may be very busy at this time.
In addition to your personal details and your contact details (telephone and email address), when you contact the Consorcio to make the claim, you should have the following information at hand:
  • The bank account number (IBAN) where you want to receive the compensation
  • A copy of your policy and paid receipt corresponding to the date on which the damage occurred. You can find this information in your Customer Area.
  • If the damage is to a vehicle:
    • Vehicle make, model and registration number of the damaged vehicle.
    • If your vehicle is already in a garage, the full address of the garage (name, address and telephone number).
  • If the damage is to a home:
    • The complete address of the damaged home.
When completing the form, avoid accents, blank spaces and make sure you press continue/accept at each step.
Although a maximum period of 7 days from when the incident took place is usually established for requesting the compensation in these types of situations, in the case of this DANA and as an exceptional measure, the Consorcio will continue to attend to the requests of those affected after this period.
Once the claim is completed and registered, you will be sent an email from the Consorcio to the email address that you have provided with a registration number for the claim. Remember to check your SPAM folder.

You can follow your claim on the  Consorcio’s website using your registration number received by email and your ID number.
  1. If it is a home:
The Consorcio will compensate you as if you were the insured party, on the basis of the policy that you have taken out. It takes into consideration the property that you have insured and the capital limits and the other insurance contract conditions. This amount is called the “insured capital” or “insured sum” and you can refer to your Home policy to know what it is. For example, if your home is insured with the value of €150,000, that is the maximum amount that you will receive from the Consorcio, once the damages have been assessed.
  2. If it is a vehicle:The Consorcio will compensate you again taking into consideration the conditions that you have contracted on your home policy.

In the event that the Consorcio loss adjusters declare it a total loss, the Government has announced that those affected will receive compensation equal to the GANVAM market value of the vehicle plus a 20% improvement. This market value takes into account the make, model and age of the vehicle. Thus, for example, if the market value of your car is 10,000 euros, you will receive compensation of € 12,000.
The Consorcio has now started to process the car and home damage claims and to make the first payments to those affected and will continue to pay the rest of the compensation, as the received cases are processed and resolved. In any event, it is possible that delays may occur in some cases due to the magnitude of the catastrophe.
It is advisable to wait for the loss adjuster to assess the vehicle or the home, as they are experts in damages caused by extraordinary flooding and it is they who must study and assess the repair that the vehicle or home needs.
